Our Annual
General Meeting 2007
was held on Tuesday, 23 October on the ANU campus, RSPhysSE
Professor Rod Boswell,
President, reported on the events of last year, and the Treasurer circulated an
income and expenditure report.
The committee for 2007–08 will
comprise mainly the same members as last year, namely: Professor Rod Boswell,
Peter Judge, Dr Irina Borissova, Dr Neville Exon, Professor Joe Gani, John
McKenna, Dr Doug Mackenzie, Professor Roye Rutland. Dr Rowena Ball and
Professor John Love are now full members of the committee (formerly they were
co-opted members). Dr Borissova
stood down as Secretary/Vice-president, but will remain on the committee as
Public Officer. Since the meeting, Dr Paul Tregoning has been welcomed onto the
committee and Belinda Barbour has agreed to act as secretary to the committee.
In accordance with the
Constitution, the committee elected from among its members the holders of the
executive positions:
President Professor John Love, Vice-president Professor Rod Boswell FAA,
Treasurer Peter Judge. Their email contact details are available here.
AFAS is a non-political, non-profit organisation.
Its office in the ACT
is in the French Embassy.
AFAS aims to:

foster
contacts between French and Australian scientists, engineers and other
professional and technical specialists
·
maintain
ties of friendship between its members and the two countries
·
promote
scientific, educational, cultural and social activities.

The printed review, French Science and Technology, which has been published regularly for
16 years, finally ran out of budget and ceased publication. The last issue, No.
49, is dated December 2004. Some recent issues, numbers 39 to 49, are still
available on the French Embassy website. There is also a list of all the
articles in these issues, which you can search using the 'find' command in your
browser.
