A non-political and non-profit-making body, AFAS was
established in 1965, initially in Sydney, to help Australian scientists
returning from French Fellowships maintain their links with France. Branches were
later set up in Melbourne and Brisbane and the aims of AFAS were widened to
include:
A local branch of AFAS was incorporated in Canberra on
16/10/91 under the name of 'The Australian-French Association of Professional
and Technical Specialists (ACT Branch) Incorporated'. This rather long-winded
and quite unmemorable name was changed at the 11th AGM on 20/3/03 to the name
shown above and registered by the Registrar-General's Office on 15/4/03. AFAS (ACT)
Inc. is an incorporated association open to everybody interested in
French-Australian relations in the scientific, technical and industrial fields.
In close cooperation with the Scientific Service of the French Embassy, current
and planned activities of AFAS (ACT) Inc. include:

subscription for AFAS (ACT) - those interested are placed on a mailing list to
