The opening presentation on Climate Change was delivered by Rae Moran of the Victorian Department of Sustainability and Environment.
The presentation on Water Challenges - Improving the Goulburn-Murray Irrigation System was delivered by Ian Moorhouse of Goulburn-Murray Water.
The presentation on the Western Corridor Recycled Water Project in Queensland was delivered by Jean-Michel Seillier of Veolia.
The closing presentation on the Perth Desaliantion Plant was delivered by Thierry Bergero of Degrémont.
More about the Forum
The aim of the presentations was to identify, within the limits of the time allotted, the challenges facing the water management industry in Australia, and to look at some of the potential solutions for addressing these challenges.
The main messages to emerge from the forum were:
- climatic trends over the past 10-30 years, particularly in south-eastern Australia, rendered urgent action necessary in order to maintain adequate water supplies;
- a multi-modal solution, encompassing conservation, recycling and alternative harvesting, was the most likely to achieve this objective.
