Thirtieth Anniversary Celebration

Friday, 3 April 2009

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the first official function organised by AFAS Victoria on 16 March 1979, a  Gala Reception  was held at Eildon Mansion on 3 April 2009.  Some 60 members and guests took part in the celebration, with the guest-of-honour being the Honorary Consul-General for France.

As part of the celebration, Past-President John Acton presented a brief review of some key achievements by AFAS Victoria over the years.  Highlights included :

  • the organisation of significant forums and seminars,
  • the collaboration with FEAST-France and the Victorian Department of Industry, Innovation and Regional Development in establishing the AFAS FEAST-France Fellowships,
  • the long-standing cooperative arrangements with the Alliance Française de Melbourne,
  • the establishment of the AFAS website
  • , and
  • the running of many popular functions.

The occasion also provided a pleasant opportunity for the reunion of a large number of current and former office bearers, some of whom are pictured below.

Current and Past Secretaries

Secretary, Philippe Lesage (Right), with Past Secretaries (Left to Right) George Bolz, Tom Rado,

Judging by the need to dim the lights at the conclusion of the evening, in order to clear the venue, it would appear that a most enjoyable time was had by all.
