The reason behind this function was to provide an opportunity for recent graduates and current tertiary students with some background in science and technology, and wishing to share an interest in France, to meet with the aim of becoming acquainted and so establishing a basis for future similar gatherings to be arranged by AFAS Victoria.

Target participants included recent graduates and tertiary students who:

• had already spent some time in France and wished to retain ties with France;
• were interested in spending some time studying or working in France;
• had a general interest in France and/or French technology;
• were looking for an opportunity to meet periodically with people who share these interests.

Some 65 people attended the function.  Following welcome drinks, the short presentation on The Science & Technology of Wine was given by special guest Loïc Le Calvez, Winemaker and Oenologist at Taltarni Vineyards in the Pyrenees wine district of Victoria.
 

 
The presentation was followed by the opportunity to mingle while enjoying a choice of select cheeses, accompanied by Taltarni wines.
